Karnataka - Bangalore

Bangalore, also known as the Garden city is the capital and the gateway to the wonders of this enchanting land. Founded by Kempe Gowda, a local Chieftain way back in 1537 A.D, Bangalore today has grown beyond his wildest imagination - a veritable melting pot of various races, cultures and work interests. The high ground nippiness of its landscape have fascinated the visitor, who come back again and again to this warm and welcoming city. You could go disco - hopping or pub crawling, to the restaurants or to movies, window shopping, or even for a round of golf.

Vidhana Soudha

Vidhana Soudha-Karnataka

Built of Granite and Porphyry this imposing building houses the Secretariat and the State Legislature of Karnataka. Constructed in 1956 after the transfer of power from the ruling Wodeyar dynasty to the central government, it was designed by Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the then Cheif Minister, who intended it to "Reflect thr Power and Dignity of the People". It is capped by a 20-m (66ft) dome, which is surmounted by the four-headed Ashokan lion, symbol of the Indian State. With Rajasthani Jharokhas, Indo-Saracenic pillars and other decorative elements, the Vidhana Soudha exemplifies the Neo-Dravidian style of Post-Independence Bangalore. The woodwork inside is noteworthy. Especially the sandalwood door to the Cabinet Room, and the Speaker's Chair was made of rosewood from Mysore. The Building looks spectacular on sunday evenings when it is beautifully illuminated.

Attara kacheri

This elegant two-storeyed building is directly opposite the Vidhana Soudha. It housed the State High Court. Within walking distance are the public library, the Government Museum, The Visveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum and the Venkatappa Art Gallery.
